WAM Organization executive summary

Wellness Approach Mentors (WAM) Organization mission, “To transform communities through health and wellness” is anchored on sustainable development goal (SDGs)3 “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”.

In order to achieve its vision of “transformed health communities”, the Organization saw the need to carry out a programme to serve children, youth, women and vulnerable communities in Kenya, Nairobi, Machakos, Kitui and Makueni. WAM Organization plans to expand and serve the Kenyan population in all the forty-seven (47) counties.

WAM Organization came into existence as a result of motivation, passion, and personal initiative of Dorothy and Jonathan who saw the need to begin this Organization to support in mitigating the suffering of children, youth, women, and vulnerable groups through health and wellness.
Living in a community where most children, youth, women and adolescent girls suffer the most due to issues related to health and wellness, drugs and substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence is not easy and the two were fueled by willingness to respond to these societal needs. Pained by the challenges facing youth, children and women, the founders set out to do their best to make a positive impact in their lives. WAM organization is working with a team of committed and qualified board members to transform communities through health and wellness. Our effort has developed a lasting association with the Government, Non-government, corporate Organizations, communities and groups with whom we have worked and partnered with. WAM Organization is registered with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) board in Kenya since 30th April 2020 and has implemented a wide range of projects related to mental health prevention and promotion, reproductive health, drugs and substance abuse, HIV/AIDS prevention and social and economic empowerment for women within Nairobi. While implementing these programs WAM Organization has focused on establishing community engagement, encouraging community ownership and providing a conducive environment that has enhanced health and wellness.

WAM Organization primary goal is to promote access to health and wellness for all by supporting individuals and communities to overcome life challenges, improve their competency, achieve personal goals, and capacity build them to live a productive life. WAM Organization operates in obedience to set laws and regulations of the republic of Kenya.

WAM's Aim and Objectives

AIM of WAM Organization:

It shall be understood through the explanation and the meaning of the three (3) words as stated below;

1) Wellness- Is the wholeness of an individual in terms of his/her physical, social, mental, psychological/emotional, economical and spiritual well-being. It is not only the absence of diseases but complete fitness of a person.

2) Approach- It is the processes and the techniques used by the Organization to achieve individuals’ health and wellness.

3) Mentors- refers to the people involved in the Organization to provide health and wellness.

WAM Organization main objective:

To promote access to health care services, human rights, reproductive health, mitigate the impact of HIV-AIDS, economic empowerments and reduce effects of drugs and alcohol addiction.
Specific objectives.

1) To conduct community health care forums that aim at creating awareness on control and prevention of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

2) To organize community outreach activities that advocate for human rights of children, youth and vulnerable groups of people.

3) To capacity build children, youth and women by providing them with life-skills training on reproductive health through workshops.

4) To provide comprehensive HIV services (Demand creation for HIV services, HIV testing, HIV care and treatment and referrals) to children, youth, women and most at risk populations through community mobilization and referral.

5) To promote employability for youth and women through economic empowerment and entrepreneurship training

6) To provide psycho-social support services to children and youth affected and at risk of drugs and alcohol addiction.

7) To take such steps by personal or written appeals, private meetings, public meetings or representations to Parliament, government entities and other bodies as may be deemed expedient to promote any of the objects of the Organization.

8) To raise, secure and utilize funds for the attainment of any or all objects of the Organization, and to do such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of these objects.

WAM's Organizational Structure

WAM Organization is committed to hire a cadre of highly qualified professionals who are driven by Passion, right attitude, self-discipline, intentional to serve, resourceful, self-motivated and demonstrating capability to propel the affairs of the Organization in a positive manner. The performance of the board of directors and that of its management team is key to sustain the growth of the Organization, in this view we have hired competitive board of directors and management team to support in running the affairs of the Organization. The Governing board of the Organization is responsible for the conduct of the Organization’s General operations and performing specified duties under its given powers as provided in the articles of its constitution. The governing board meets regularly at the office or via zoom in Nairobi. Board serves, audits, and budgets, responsible for designing programs, development effectiveness, governance, leadership and administrative matters. WAM Organization administrative and financial control is vested in the executive committee which comprises the founders, board of directors, Head of programs, Head of operations, and departmental officers. WAM Organization top position is that of executive director who acts as the link between the board of directors and the senior management team.
